My grandfather
called it
forest eyes.

The ability to see what others walk straight past — not by looking harder, but by understanding the habitat.

As a child, I spent a great deal of time walking through forests and coastal landscapes with my grandfather. At some point he noticed something about the way I observed the world around me.

I was remarkably good at spotting wildlife others simply walked past. Not the obvious things — but animals hidden in camouflage, subtle movement in the undergrowth, species that most people never noticed at all.

He told me I had "forest eyes."

What he meant was that I didn't just see what was there — I understood the habitat. Why a species appeared in a certain place. How it interacted with others. What conditions allowed it to thrive or fail.

That way of reading complex environments stayed with me. Today I apply exactly the same lens to companies and business ecosystems.

Organisations, like forests, operate through systems. When the right elements align — leadership, culture, technology, capital, timing — a company can truly thrive. When they don't, growth stalls, often in ways that are very difficult for people inside the system to see.

My work is helping leaders see those patterns clearly — and act on them.

"Thriving systems — in nature or in business — are never accidents. They emerge when someone can still see the forest clearly."

The Forest Eyes Framework

Four principles for reading complex ecosystems.

01
Seeing through camouflage

In nature, animals survive by blending in. In companies, the real problems hide the same way — wrong leadership, broken incentives, misaligned strategy. Most people see the surface. Forest eyes see what's actually happening underneath.

02
Understanding the habitat

A species only thrives in the right environment. The same is true for people and companies. Growth depends on the right mix of leadership, culture, incentives, capital, technology, and timing. If the habitat is wrong, even great people fail.

03
Reading the signals

Forests constantly give signals: tracks, sounds, seasonal change. Markets and companies do the same — talent movement, product adoption, shifts in capital, technological disruption. Reading signals early means seeing opportunity sooner.

04
Building thriving ecosystems

Nature works through ecosystems. Thriving companies do too. Success rarely comes from a single decision — it comes from aligning many interacting elements: the right people, strategy, and technology reinforcing one another over time.

What We Do

The right elements,
at the right moment.

We work with a select number of founders, scale-ups and venture ecosystems at any one time — so our forest eyes can be fully focused on what matters for you.

01 — Leadership

Executive Search

Finding leaders who don't just perform well in isolation — but who fit precisely within the ecosystem you are building. We identify the right species for your particular habitat: growth stage, culture, market dynamics, and what comes next.

Placement — Interim — Board
02 — Structure

Organisation Design

Structures, teams and cultures built to scale. From defining the right roles at the right moment to the internal dynamics that allow an organisation to grow without breaking. We design environments where great people do their best work.

Design — Transformation — Culture
03 — Growth

Scale-up Advisory

For founders and leadership teams navigating fast-moving markets. We identify the patterns others miss, spot where growth is stalling and why, and help align the ecosystem around the next phase of the company.

Strategy — Hiring — Ecosystems
04 — Networks

Venture Ecosystem Building

Connecting talent, capital and strategy within venture environments. Building the networks around companies that give them an asymmetric advantage — from the first critical hire through to board-level composition and beyond.

Time for a
conversation?

We work with a deliberately small number of organisations at any given time. That focus is what makes the difference. If you believe we could build something together, we'd like to hear from you.
